What is an Erbium Laser Peel?
The Erbium Peel is a state-of-the-art laser treatment that offers improvement
to fine lines, freckles and skin discolouration by gently removing a superficial
layer of skin. It is a safe, fast and effective way to achieve a
fresh new look. The peel is performed by our Registered Nurse laser
clinician and is monitored by our in-house Dermatologist, who has a special
interest in cosmetic laser treatments.
How do I prepare for this procedure?
Arrive one hour prior to your appointment to have a topical anaesthetic
cream, called EMLA, applied to the face. This will make the treatment
more comfortable for you. The cream may be purchased over the counter
at any pharmacy. You should purchase one
5mg tube for the entire area. An oral antiviral preparation is prescribed
if you have a history of cold sores on the face or lips.
Are there any considerations after this procedure?
For approximately two days the skin may be pink and peeling. Immediately
after the peel, the following specialty products are recommended and are
available at our clinic: Intaglio Vit-C and Enriched Moisturizer.
These products are to be applied as frequently as needed for your comfort.
You may apply make-up after 24 hours.
Are there any side-effects or complications?
Prolonged redness, moderate redness or swelling may occur longer than
24 hours. There may also be skin discolouration, scabbing or scarring.
All these complications are extremely rare and resolve on their own.
Cold sores can be activated on occasion (just like the fact that sunburn
can activate a cold sore).
What does it feel like?
A rubber band snapping gently but continuously against your skin.
The sensation after the treatment is like that of a moderate sunburn,
typically lasting 2-24 hours.
What are the expected results?
Reduction of fine wrinkles and/or elimination of some brown spots.
Skin Care Follow Up:
Following your peel we shall schedule a complimentary skin care consultation
in one month with our trained Medical Aesthetician to inform you of our
dermatologist recommended products to continue your new commitment to
YOU.
You should wait until the compression garments come off, normally three
to four weeks, before beginning your Endermologie treatments.
