Let’s call it like it is; life can be exhausting. In today’s world, between work, studies, personal commitments and the constant barrage of information, e-mails and social media we’re expected to keep up with, it’s not wondering we all feel we look exhausted. This is even coming from a man without children (though I do have a particularly high maintenance cactus, I mean, who has time to water something once every three weeks?). We all get run down from the daily grind, and it can often show in our faces.
A chief complaint I get very often is, “I always look tired”. While proper sleep, nutrition, hydration and stress reduction are excellent advice, it isn’t always that easy to implement. Often, even all those things aren’t enough. At the cosmetic clinic, there are a few ways to try and help this complaint, but I am willing to wager that 9 out of 10 times, the number one treatment is to do undereye filler.
This can affect our face structure in many ways, but in the peri-orbital area (the area surrounding the eyes), the volume loss can lead to a sunken, hollow, tired look. They can even look darker, due to the concave shape capturing and reflecting light differently and showing more shadows.
Fortunately, undereye filler can help to reverse this process and fix any lost volume. My preferred product for this procedure is Juvederm Volbella. In many cases, one vial split between the two undereye areas is enough. It is a particularly soft filler, which is ideal for this area because a gentle and subtle touch is the only way to approach it. I place the filler using a cannula, for safety and results, which also benefits us in the minimal risk of bruising or swelling post-procedure. Cannulas are soft needles that pass through the skin without breaking blood vessels. After the procedure, you can go about your day with barely any restrictions; people often do this and return to work that day.
The best part of treating this area (aside from my pleasant mid-procedure banter) is how long it lasts. Juvederm® Volbella® uses Vycross technology, cross-linking the hyaluronic acid, making it the longest-lasting filler of this type on the market. Undereyes are an area where filler naturally lasts longer, with limited movement and manipulation, so one vial can last two years or more in a large number of our patients. That value is hard to match.
